THE BUSINESS

The current owners purchased the business in 1996 and this is only being offered for sale so that they can enjoy a well-earned retirement.

The current owners have built up an extremely profitable business from a loyal customer base and an element of passing trade. The business is renowned for its cask ale offerings and has been listed in the Good Beer Guide for over 20 consecutive years. These cask ale traditions and expertise resulted in the business being awarded The Yorkshire Pub of the year in 2011 by CAMRA.

The business has an agreement with the local Jervaulx Estate to sell day fishing tickets to anglers to make use of a 2 mile stretch of fishing rights on The Rivers Cover and Ure. This helped the business gain exposure in the Salmon and Trout publication in 2019.

An additional income stream has been generated through participation in The Brit Stops and MHS Motorhome stopover schemes, whereby motorhome users are able to make use of the car park overnight at no cost on the understanding that they actively support the business whilst staying, it is estimated that around 150 motorhomes make use of this facility each year.

Due to the location of the business it also enjoys strong footfall from those enjoying outdoor pursuits. A very popular Wensleydale circular walk which takes in Jervaulx originates at this historic country inn. A strong winter trade is generated by customers partaking in field sports in the locality.

We are advised that accounts declare takings of circa £403,511 (exclusive of vat) in the year to the end of January 2019.
